When Simpler.Grants.Gov replaces Grants.gov in 2027, will the integrations change for Federal grants management systems that post opportunities and ingest applications for the agencies or will our existing Grants.gov integrations continue to work? If the integrations will change, when do you expect to publish new specifications so we can develop the necessary integrations?
Yes, integrations will change, but the transition is intended to be gradual rather than abrupt. Existing endpoints won’t just disappear overnight. The team plans to extend the lifecycle of the existing interface through a proxy for a reasonable period. It should not be the case that 2027 arrives and existing endpoints simply turns off.
At minimum, URLs will change. Even for systems continuing to use existing endpoints through the proxy period, the endpoint URLs will need to be updated. There are also open questions around authentication, since current auth flows depend on Grants.gov infrastructure that may be scaled back or decommissioned.
The long-term direction is REST APIs. New REST APIs are being stood up to replace the existing endpoints. The team is participating in data standards work across the grants ecosystem, and the current expectation is a 2-year adoption period from when recommendations/requirements are issued to when those standards are fully rolled out across systems.
Thank you for that detail. Two follow up questions:
- Do you have a date (or target date) when the new specifications will be available so we can plan that into our product roadmap?
- How will you publish the new specifications so we know where to look for them?
